‘Hands together, eyes shut tight.’

That’s the way generations of children were taught to pray.

Curiously, many different prayer postures are described in Scripture, but not that one.

William Hendriksen (New Testament Commentary on The Pastoral Epistles) lists the following:

[No doubt there is much that is cultural about this.  But there can also a deeper appropriateness to the bodily posture (as well as the tone of voice and, of course, the choice of words) that we adopt when addressing the Almighty God who is also our Father in heaven.]
